"Final Command"
Short Fiction 1949 8,500 words
  • A letter by Richard A. Hoen published in the November 1948 issue of Astounding Science Fiction jokingly reviewed several named stories by various leading authors from the not-yet-published November 1949 issue (which was one year into the future). Campbell liked the idea so much that he commissioned stories by those titles from those authors to appear in the "predicted" issue. Van Vogt's story "Final Command" was one of those mentioned by Hoen.
